Men’s Soccer: Baumann Lifts Scots Past Carleton, 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A goal by sophomore forward Danny Baumann (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) in the 75th minute gave the Macalester College men's soccer team a key MIAC win at Carleton, 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Bell Field. The result gives the Scots a 9-0-5 record on the season, including a 5-0-2 mark in league play. The Knights fall to 7-5-2, 4-2-1 MIAC.

With the game still scoreless heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation, Baumann received a pass from junior midfielder Nick Sorenson (Wausau, Wis./East), beat his defender and scored for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Baumann's third in as many games and marked his fourth consecutive game with a point. Carleton managed just one shot the rest of the way, as Macalester remained unbeaten with its third consecutive victory.

Junior goalkeeper Zeke Vainer (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) had a solid game in goal with eight saves, as the Knights held a 17-15 edge in shots. Brandon Hilliard had five saves and the Carleton defenders cleared two shots off the goal line.

Macalester hosts UW-Superior in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
