NORTHFIELD, Minn.-- Four costly turnovers in overtime allowed St. Olaf to gain a 64-54 victory over Macalester in Wednesday evening Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
St. Olaf jumped out to an early lead in the first half before the Scots were able to tie the score up at the 1:10 mark on a jumper by
Erin Murray. Macalester entered the half up by two as
Annie Drabot laid a basked up and in with time expiring. The Scots continued their run into the second half as they extended their lead to seven (36-29) at the 15:46 mark.
St. Olaf made a run of their own, regaining the lead and holding it until the: 31 second mark when
Erin Murray knocked down another clutch shot to tie the game up at 50-50 and send the Scots into their first overtime of the season.
Plagued by turnovers and missed shots, St. Olaf sealed the win in the extended five minutes of play.
Macalester falls to 3-15 overall and 0-11 in conference play. St. Olaf improves to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the MIAC.
Freshman center
Regan Fruh led Macalester scoring 15 points on the night. Fruh made five of 11 shots from the field, five of six from the line and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Erin Murray added 10 points on the night and finished with three assists.
Lauren Gutierrez led St. Olaf with 19 points after hitting three of four shots from beyond the arc.
Macalester will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 31 as they travel to Concordia Moorhead for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
