ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Saint Benedict's full-court pressure in the second half forced the Scots into 13 turnovers as the Blazers overcame a 15-point deficit to pull out a 73-65 victory.
The Scots held the lead for nearly 16 minutes in the game, their largest lead of 15 coming at the 12:49 mark in the second half when
Vivi Gregorich knocked down her third three-pointer of the evening.
The Blazer's five player, Kate Banovetz, proved unstoppable in the final 20 minutes as she scored 23 of her 27 points to boost the St. Ben's offense. Macalester lost the lead for good at the 6:57 mark on a layup by Banovetz. The Scots would cut the visitor's lead to three at the 1:50 mark, but couldn't bridge the gap as the Blazers knocked down a pair of free-throws to seal the win.
Macalester falls to 3-12 overall and 0-8 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Saint Benedict improves to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in conference action.
Regan Fruh led the Scots in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with 16 points on eight of 14 shooting from the field. Fruh also grabbed nine boards, three assists and three blocks.
Senior forward
Annie Drabot boasted a stellar performance shooting six of 10 from the field to finish with 15 points. Drabot secured her first collegiate double double as she also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Scots.
Grace Dickman and
Vivi Gregorich were the final players to finish in double-digit scoring for Macalester, putting up 10 and 11 points respectively.
Erin Murray dished out seven assists.
The Scots outrebounded St. Ben's, 47-45 but lost the game with turnovers as the Blazers forced the home team into 20 and committed just four themselves.
Macalester will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 as they host Carleton in the front end of a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
