ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Macalester shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half and led for the game's final 25 minutes as the Scots posted their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season, tallying a season-high point total, with a 73-59 victory over Saint Mary's.
The hosts trailed much of the game early on and found themselves down by eight, 20-12, eight minutes, 47 seconds, into the game before a 13-4 run, led by
Dylan Kilgour, who scored four points and had a pair of assists during the run, put Macalester back in front.
The Cardinals regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Nick Ogren but
Kyle Bernhard's jumper with 4:43 to play in the opening half gave the Scots the lead for good and they would eventually take a four-point lead into halftime.
Macalester put the game away in the middle of the second half when it went on a 13-2 run, led by Kilgour and
Kareem Ismail, who each scored five points, to take their largest lead of the game at 64-45.
Kilgour proved to be the team's leader throughout the game, Shooting 8-for-11 from the field, he scored a game-high 18 points while leading the Scots with nine rebounds and five assists
Kyle Bernhard made five of eight shots from the field and finished with 11 points in 19 minutes of action while
Bert Yaffe chipped in with nine points, four assists and a game-high four steals.
Hans Erickson chipped in with eight points, three assists and three steals.
As a team, Macalester hit on 29 of 54 field-goal attempts (53.7 percent), including a 16-for-24 performance in the second half. Not only was their shooting performance a season best, the Scots also racked up season-bests with 18 assists and nine steals along with a season low nine turnovers.
Next up for the Scots is Monday's road trip to St. Peter, Minn., where they will face Gustavus Adolphus in a 7 p.m.
