Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Ionatan Kuperwajs came off the bench to score his first career goal and
Zeke Vainer posted his second shutout in as many days as Macalester defeated Dubuque, 1-0.
Having played Saturday afternoon, the recovery time for the Scots was short and head coach
Gregg Olson used his bench liberally, with 20 field players seeing action.
"Today was a difficult road game after Hamline and the travel to Dubuque yesterday," Olson said. "We played a lot of guys and rested some players as well. Some young players earned their first minutes of their career."
Kuperwajs, a first-year player averaging 30 minutes per game, had played just 34 minutes in two games during the week before seeing 31 minutes against Dubuque.
His goal broke a scoreless tie in the game's 79th minutes off an assist by
Dylan Wong.
"Credit to Ionatan for a great goal," Olson said. "He struggled on the day, but kept fighting to get in front of goal."
Meanwhile, Vainer recorded four saves in earning his second shutout on the weekend. Both teams recorded four shots on goal, with the Spartans holding a 12-8 advantage in total shots.
After a demanding week, in which they played three matches in five days, the Scots are now idle until Saturday, when they will face Augsburg in a 7 p.m. contest at the Auggies' Edor Nelson Field.
