Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Austin Burrows scored both Macalester goals and the Scots got their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Hamline.
"It was not a great performance for us," Macalester head coach
Gregg Olson said afterwards. "But we'll take the result against a good Hamline team."
The Scots caught a break in the game's 10th minute when the Pipers' defense lost control of the ball near the right sideline. Burrows collected the loose ball and sent a cross into the crease. However, the ball failed to bend in midair and sailed over the outstretched hands of Hamline goalkeep Jacob Duxbury and into the net.
At halftime, Macalester had a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal but Hamline turned that around in the second half, outshooting its host, 13-6.
However, the lone goal of the final 45 minutes came from Burrows, his fifth goal of the season, who scored on a penalty kick after
Dylan Wong was pulled down in the box while attempting to make a move to the net.
The Scots have little time to rest after the victory as they travel to the University of Dubuque this evening, where they will face the Spartans, Sunday, in a 3 p.m. match at Oyen Field.
