ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team hosted the University of Northwestern in a 5:45 p.m. tipoff at Alumni Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Scots fell to the Eagles, 69-62 in non-conference action.
Macalester set the stage for a first-half battle at the 4:40 mark when they took an 18-17 lead, just their second lead of the half after going up 2-0 to start the game on a jumper by
Katelyn Kack. Northwestern ended the half on an eight to zero run, forcing a 25-18 deficit for the Scots at the half.
Lacking in momentum, Macalester continued to falter in second half play as Northwestern sharp shooters found their rhythm. The Scots fell behind by as much as 20 with just over five minutes of play remaining. Five consecutive points by sophomore guard
Lauren Clamage and two clutch shots from beyond the arc by freshman guard
G.G. Gunther carried the Scots to within four (63-59) with just under a minute to play.
The Scots' final push came just a little too late, as Northwestern was able to extend the lead back to eight as time expired.
The sophomore duo of
Lauren Clamage and
Park Masterson led the offensive attack for the Scots. Clamage led Macalester with a career-high 18 points after knocking down two shots from beyond the arc and going eight for 11 at the line.
Masterson finished with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Annie Drabot and freshman guard
Vivi Gregorich each added eight points. Gregorich dished out a team-high seven assists.
Northwestern was led by Kim Campbell with 17 points on three for three shooting from three-point range.
Macalester will return to action on Friday, Nov. 28 and 29 as they compete at the Buena Vista tournament in Storm Lake, Iowa.
