ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team opened up the 2014-15 season at home tonight on the hardwood of Alumni Gymnasium. The Scots took on Crown College in a midweek, non-conference match-up and defeated the Storm 60-38. A strong second half performance led by veteran forward,
Annie Drabot secured a dominant first win for the Scots.
Head Coach
Kelly Roysland notched her first career victory in her head-coaching debut at Macalester this evening. The Scots begin the 2014-15 season with a 1-0 mark and forced Crown to drop to 0-3 overall.
Up by just three points at the half (24-21), the Scots came out in the second half with a purpose—outscoring Crown 36-17 and capitalizing on 13 points off the bench.
Annie Drabot led all players on the night, finishing with 18 points on eight of 14 shooting from the field. Drabot pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added three steals.
Junior guard
Erin Murray and freshman center
Regan Fruh each added nine points for the Scots. Murray hit five of six shots from the charity stripe.
Sophomore forward
Park Masterson finished with eight points on the night, shooting four of seven from the field and adding six rebounds.
All 12 Scots saw action in tonight's contest as Macalester finished with the advantage in rebounding, steals, assists and committed fewer turnovers than Crown.
The Scots will quickly return to action as they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Live stats and video for Thursday's game can be found at the following links:
