MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Macalester shot 50 percent from the floor and led for over 36 minutes of the game in a 66-59 win at North Central.
The Scots trailed on two occassions, for a total of 58 seconds, by one point and were tied five times, the last at 31-31 with 17 minutes, 39 seconds to play in the game before a quick seven-point run, with back-to-back baskets by
Hans Erickson and
Sager Moritzky, followed by a three-point shot by
Bert Yaffe, gave the visitors the lead for good.
Moritzky and
Dylan Kilgour proved to solid 1-2 perimeter shooting duo as the Macalester guards combined to go 11-for-18 from the floor, each hitting three of six three-point attempts. Moritzky finished with a game-high 17 points while Kilgour had 16.
Kareem Ismail provided solid inside play as he scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. He also had three assists, a blocked shot, a steal and no turnovers.
On the game, the Scots shot 24-for-48 from the floor and were 7-for-16 from three-point range. However, they were outrebounded, 35-31, with the Rams holding a 16-8 advantage in offensive rebounds, resulting in a 17-12 advantage in second-chance points.
Macalester now has a week off before its home opener, Tuesday, Nov. 25, versus Northwestern-St. Paul in a 7:30 p.m. game at the Leonard Center.
