ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team opened up the 2014-15 season Saturday night in St. Bonifacius, Minn. as they took on Crown College. The Scots came out on top in the hard fought season opener, defeating the Storm 65-60. The Scots begin their season with sweet redemption, having lost to Crown last season in a five-point slide.
Junior guard
Dylan Kilgour led the Scots with 23 points on the night. Kilgour went five for 10 from beyond the arc and knocked down eight of nine shots from the charity stripe.
Two additional players finished in double-digit scoring for Macalester. Sophomore center
Kareem Ismail shot seven of 11 from the field and recorded 16 points on the night. Ismail was able to collect his first double-double of the season, adding a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior forward
Bert Yaffe added 10 points for the Scots on four of seven shooting from the field.
Sophomore guard
Sager Moritzky dished out six assists on the night.
Hans Erickson added four.
The Scots shot 41% from the field and worked from behind nearly the entire first half before taking the lead with just 35 seconds on the clock on a pair of made free throws by Kilgour. Macalester's largest lead came in the second half as the Scots went up by nine with 17:10 on the clock.
Macalester won the rebounding battle, 40-32 and scored 13 points off of the bench to Crown's nine.
The Scots will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 as they travel to North Central University for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
