ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Bethel scored in the game's 39th minute and held off Macalester for their first win of the season, claiming a 1-0 victory at the Ona Orth Soccer Complex.
Both teams had five shots on goal, with the Royals holding an 11-10 edge in shot attempts, but it was Mikala Smith's shot with six minutes, seven seconds remaining in the first half which spelled the difference.
Emma Toomer made four saves for the Scots. Up front,
Hannah Walker and
Bonnie Gale each had three shots.
Macalester returns to action with a non-conference game Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. versus St. Scholastica.
