WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Macalester held a lead on the country's 13th-ranked team but Wisconsin-Whitewater tied the game in the 32nd minute, added another in the 58th minute and held on for a 2-1 victory.
The Scots got on the scoreboard first when
Bonnie Gale cleaned up a rebound off a free kick, 14 minutes, 38 seconds into the contest.
The Warhawks' Jenna Woods tied the game at 31:02 and the teams went into halftime tied 1-1, despite a penalty kick opportunity for the hosts, which Macalester goalkeeper
Emma Toomer saved with 6:30 to play in the first half.
UW-Whitewater then turned up the pressue in the second half, holding an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal after being outshot, 9-8, in the first half. The Warhawks got the eventual game-winning goal 12:45 into the second half when Carly Pottle notched her sixth goal of the season.
Toomer made seven saves for the Scots as UW-Whitewater had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Macalester returns to conference play, Saturday, when they will host St. Catherine at 7 p.m.
