ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Hannah Pollard-Garber missed the entire month of September with an injury. Now, back in the starting lineup, she has five assists in her last five games, including two in a 2-0 win over St. Catherine to move Macalester into a sixth-place tie in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings.
The game was slow in the early going but the Scots finally got on the scoreboard with 10 minutes, two seconds remaining in the first half when Pollard-Garber dribbled ball along the end line and made a perfect pass to
Hayley Stutzman, who was able to tap in a one-touch shot from inside the six-yard box.
Macalester controlled much of the game and was not seriously threatened in the second half.
However, they added an insurance goal in the 68th minute as Pollard-Garber brought the ball up the right side and led
Kara Komoto with a diaganol pass through the penalty box. Komoto finished her run when she got the ball just inside the six-yard box and buried the ball in the left side of the net, scoring her first career goal.
With the win pushing the Scots past St. Catherine in the standings and tying St. Olaf, which lost to St. Thomas, 2-1, earlier in the day, Macalester is now poised to claim one of the league's six playoff positions. Those three teams, along with Bethel, are within one point of each, battling for the final playoff spot.
The Scots are at home, Wednesday, to face third-place Concordia at 7:30 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season with a 1 p.m. game, Saturday, in Winona, Minn., at St. Mary's.
