NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Macalester scored both of its goals in the first half and then held off Carleton in the second half for a 2-1 victory.
The win snaps a five-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winless streak for the Scots and keeps them alive for a playoff spot in the six-team conference playoffs.
Hannah Walker Macalester on the scoreboard in the game's eighth minute when she broke away from the Knights defense to score her first goal of the season.
Carleton finally got on the scoreboard with 3:34 to play in the first half when
Emma Toomer saved a corner kick Connor Kasch but Ava Lewis was there for the rebound and notched her seventh goal of the season.
The Scots were awarded a free kick as the final minute of the second half approached, which Mikayla Coloumbe blocked but
Ellen Brady, a senior playing in just her 25th career game, collected the rebound and scored her first career goal to put the visitors ahead with 56 seconds remaining in the opening half.
The hosts had a territorial advantage in the second half and outshot Macalester, 4-2, with a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks but the Scots withstood the pressure to hold on for the win.
With the victory, Macalester keeps its hopes alive for a spot in the MIAC playoffs, as they now stand eighth with seven points, six points out of sixth place with four games to play.
Up next for the Scots is a 1 p.m. match, Saturday, at 11th-place Gustavus Adolphus.
