HOW IT HAPPENED
• Macalester had a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half but goalkeepers Keenan Smith and Zeke Vainer each made three saves to keep the game scoreless.
• Carleton reversed the shot totals in the second half, holding a 9-4 advantage, but did not put one on goal while Macalester put three of its four on net.
• The Scots had six shots in the two overtime sessions, including two in the final seven minutes and two corner kicks in the game's final minute.

NOTES
• Smith made eight save in all while Vainer recorded his conference-leading sixth shutout with four saves.
Alan Schembri-Wismayer had a career-high nine shots, including four on goal while playing over 100 minutes for the second time in three games.

Playoff Positioning
• With the tie, Macalester moves into a fourth-place tie in the MIAC standings with 10 points. However, they are tied with St. Thomas, which has a game in hand on the Scots as well as a 1-0 victory earlier this season. One point back are both Augsburg, which has two games in hand on Macalester, and St. John's, which also defeated the Scots earlier this season.
• The top six teams in the MIAC's regular-season standings advance to the league playoffs with the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed in the quarterfinals, Nov. 4. The first and second seeds will then host semifinal matches, Nov. 5, with the highest remaining seed hosting the conference championship, Nov. 8, with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH GREGG OLSON
• "Tonight was going to be a battle, tt always is against Carleton. If you knew before the game that there would be 37 total shots, you would think there would be goals and probably a few from Carleton with the quality of players like (Jordan) Cammarota and (Branden) McGarrity. But, both defenses were very good. Carleton's Keenan Smith made some fantastic saves, especially on Austin Burrows' two chances. Zeke Vainer was fantastic in goal for us as his confidence continues to grow each game."
• "Our attack was fast and a little too direct in the final third of the field. Jake Burke and Tristan Springer were again very good winning the ball. But now we need to get them more involved in the attack to help us further control of the game. Alan Schembri-Wismayer had a good game and was very dangerous in attack. They keyed on not letting him play but, he still had nine shots."

UP NEXT
