ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Taylor Hedin lofted a shot from 25 yards out and, with 14 seconds remaining in the the second overtime, the ball sailed over the outstretched hands of Macalester goalkeeper
Emma Toomer and into the net as 13th-ranked Saint Benedict claimed a 1-0 win from Macalester.
In a rematch of last season's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game, the Blazers, who won that game, 3-2, controlled the play in the first half while the hosts controlled much of the play in the second half.
St. Benedict, which held a 10-9 edge in shots, had a 3-1 advantage in overtime with Hedin's final shot of the game resulting in her fourth goal of the season.
The Scots relied heavily on their first 11 as only three subs entered the game and six of the team's 10 starting field players played the entire game.
Toomer made four saves in the game while Blazer goalkeeper Heather Kaluzniak did likewise.
Macalester will be in action again Saturday morning when the Scots take on Bethel in an 11 a.m. match in Arden Hills.
