The Scots played some good volleyball over the weekend at the Macalester Invitational at the Leonard Center and claimed victory in two of their four matches, beating Northland 3-0 and UW-Superior3-1 on Friday before falling Saturday afternoon to UM-Morris 3-1 and UW-Stout 3-0.
Laura Avena (Sr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga State Gymnasium No. 1) was one of the tournament's top players and boosted her caeer total to 989 career kills. Avena spiked 51 kills over the weekend for a set average of 3.64. She also topped the team in aces (12) and digs (2.5 a set). Avena had 24 kills and hit .500 in her best match against Superior.
Brooke Hunter (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) was second on the team with 25 kills.Â
Hannah Rehak (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) had 22 kills and led the team with 9.0 blocks.Â
Kasey McMaster (So., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) produced 6.7 assists per set. Mac's top defenders were Avena with 35 digs and
Cora Trout (So., Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) with 34.
The Scots are level at 5-5 on the year and play Tuesday (Sept. 10) at North Central.
