Macalester and Bethel played three close sets Friday night at the Leonard Center, with the Royals coming out on top for a 3-0 sweep, winning by tallies of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18. The Scots drop to 9-8 on the season and 1-2 in the MIAC, while the Royals improve to 8-7 overall, 1-2 in MIAC play.
Kasey McMaster (So., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) handed out 24 set assists to lead the way for the Scots, who hit .156 for the match. Her top targets were
Brooke Hunter (So., Stillwater, Minn.) with 13 kills,
Laura Avena (Sr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga State Gymnasium No. 1) with six and
Hannah Rehak (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) with five.
Defensive leaders for Macalester were Avena with 11 digs and
Cora Trout (So., Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) with nine. Collecting three blocks each were Rehak and
Caitlyn O'Neil (Fy., Carmichael, Calif. / Rio Americano).
Bethel hit .255 and was led by Nicole Ackatz with 12 kills.
The score was tied eight times in the first set and seven times in set two.
The Scots head to St. Peter tomorrow for an MIAC match at Gustavus Adolphus.
