Football: Concordia pulls away from Macalester

Macalester was tied 10-10 with Concordia (Wis.) Saturday in Mequon, Wis., but the Falcons had a touchdown and field goal in the fourth quarter to escape with a 20-10 victory over the Scots.

The game was closely played, with Macalester gaining a slight 376-375 yardage advantage.

Concordia led 10-0 following a 75-yard TD drive and 64-yard drive for a field goal.  The Scots made it 10-7 when John Johnson (Sr., McKenzie, Tenn.) scored a 51-yard TD reception from Samson Bialostok (Jr., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence).  Bialostok had a productive game from his quarterback position, going 24-for-34 passing for 275 yards while also running for 75 yards.

Johnson finished with 10 receptions for 146 yards.  In addition to the long touchdown, the Scots received an Auburn Jimenez (Sr., East Los Angeles, Calif. / St. John Bosco) 20-yard field goal to tie the game at 10-10 midway through the third period.

Ryan Fleming (So., Charlotte, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union) led the Macalester defense with 10 tackles, with Nate Yordy (Jr., Libertyville, Ill.) adding eight stops to go along with a recovered fumble.

Austin Damaschke passed for 183 yards on a 21-for-30 performance and also ran for 99 yards and the game's first touchdown to lead Concordia's charge.  Garrett Wenzelburger caught eight passes for 96 yards.  The Falcons avenge a 17-13 defeat to Mac a year ago.

The Scots are 1-1 on the campaign and play next Saturday (Sept. 21) at Maranatha Baptist in Watertown, Wis.
