Macalester won first, second and fourth sets to defeat St. Olaf 25-21, 26-24, 14-25, 25-20 Wednesday in Northfield. The Scots pick up their third conference victory and on the season improve to 12-10 overall and 3-4 in the MIAC. St. Olaf has its eight-match MIAC win streak over Macalester snapped and is now 7-15 on the season, 1-5 in conference play.
Brooke Hunter (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) and
Laura Avena (Sr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga State Gymnasium No. 1) each had big nights at the net, contributing 16 kills apiece to lead the Macalester attack. They combined for 32 of the team's 47 kills.
Cora Trout (So., Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) led the defensive effort, finishing with 28 digs.
Kasey McMaster (So., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) distributed 38 assists, her third highest total of the season, and also had three blocks.
The Scots go for their third straight win Tuesday (Oct. 15) when they play a non-conference match at Martin Luther.
