Men’s Soccer: Scots open up offense at Bethel

Box Score
Macalester matched a season-high by racking up four goals Saturday in a 4-2 MIAC victory at Bethel.  The Scots move to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the MIAC.  Bethel is 3-7 on the campaign, 1-4 in the conference.

Charlie Spurr (Fy., Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt), Cole Erickson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) and Nicholas Sorenson (Fy., Wausau, Wis. / East) produced first half goals to give the Scots a 3-0 lead at the break, and Erickson netted another score to wrap up the scoring in the 72nd minute and preserve the win.

Bethel out-shot the Scots 14-12, including 8-7 in shots on net.  Macalester's Zeke Vainer (Fy., Melrose, Mass. ) registered six goalkeeper saves.

"In the first half we played very well," reported head coach Gregg Olson.  "Alan Schembri-Wismayer allowed us to play our game and our wide players were dangerous one-on-one and with their distribution.

"However, the second half we were caught on our back foot and did not end the game as early as we should have. Bethel stepped up their game and played really well. They deserved their goals. But, once again Cole Erickson pulled through on the attacking side of the field with his second goal of the day.

"We have nearly a week now as we prep for St. Olaf on Friday. The guys need this break and we will adjust some things going into this next phase of conference play."
