Macalester surprised No. 7-ranked St. Benedict by defeating the Blazers 25-20 in the opening set. However, the Blazers came on strong after that, escaping with a 3-1 MIAC victory after claiming the next three sets 25-15, 25-16 and 25-23. The Scots closed out their 2013 campaign one match under .500 at 13-14 overall, and finish 4-7 in the MIAC, just missing out on the six-team post-season conference playoffs. St. Ben's improves to 24-2 on the season and 9-2 in the MIAC.
Laura Avena (Sr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga State Gymnasium No. 1) closed out her great collegiate career by giving her team 13 kills and 11 digs for another double-double.
Brooke Hunter (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) and
Hannah Rehak (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) contributed six kills each and
Arianna Hesterberg (So., Kenmore, Wash. / Inglemoor) had five to go along with a .417 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Macalester was led by
Cora Trout (So., Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) with 14 digs.
Kasey McMaster (So., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) set up the attack with 29 assists.
CSB was led by Lexi Alm and Lexi Rinde with 14 kills apiece.
