UMM topples Scots

Box Score Macalester vs. Minnesota Morris statistics

Minnesota Morris had five players with at least six kills and swept Macalester 3-0 Tuesday night in Morris.  The Scots drop to 2-3 on the young season, while UMM improves to 4-1.  Set scores were 25-13, 25-21 and 25-19.

Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) distributed 14 assists and Glasha Marcon (Sr., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) contributed 20 digs to help lead the way for Macalester.  Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) had 11 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and a pair of serving aces in a solid all-round match.  Marcon also served two aces.

The Cougars hit .283 and were led by Kaylie Clark with eight kills and 20 digs.

After an easy UMM win in the opening set, the second and third sets were fairly closely played, and combined for 18 ties and nine lead changes.  Set two was the closest, with Morris leading 20-19 before pulling away with a 5-2 run.

Macalester jumps right back into action tomorrow night with a match at Crown College.  The Scots travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif., Friday and Saturday (Sept. 7-8) for the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational.
