Macalester goes to .500 in MIAC

Box Score
Robin Forslund  (Jr., Madison, Wis. / Memorial) and Will Mackaman (Jr., Des Moines, Ia. / Roosevelt) scored goals early and late in the second half as the Scots improved their MIAC record to an even 2-2 with a 2-0 shutout over Bethel on a warm Saturday night at Macalester Stadium.

Goalkeeper Jesse Yourish (Sr., Port Townsend, Wash.) turned back both Bethel shots on net to post his second shutout of the season and reduce his goals against average to 1.25.  Mac's defense held the Royals to only two shots on goal, getting several blocks from the defenders against BU's 12 overall tries.

Following a scoreless first half, Forslund, an All-MIAC midfielder, headed a cross over the keeper's reach for his first marker of the year and a 1-0 Macalester lead.    Stephen Anderson (Jr., St. Charles, Ill. / Marmion Academy) and Eric Dodd (Sr., Fort Madison, Ia.) contributed on the double-assist.  In the 85th minute, Chris Kartheiser (Jr., Shorewood, Wis.) assisted on Mackaman's second goal in as many matches to put things away.

"I'm really happy for the team. They have been working hard and have continued to push forward regardless of the outcomes and setbacks from the beginning of our season,” said Coach Gregg Olson.

“Each game we have improved and tonight was another example of how we are making strides as a group. Two goals, a shutout and 19 players saw the field. This was a team effort, but Jesse Yourish came up huge for us at a key point in the game. He has made impressive saves and has improved with each game."

Macalester is 2-7-1 overall, 2-2 in the MIAC, while the Royals are 1-9 on the season and 1-3 in the MIAC.

The Scots look to make it two in a row when they host Concordia-Moorhead Wednesday (Oct. 3) at 7:30 p.m.
