Gusties topple Scots in MIAC match

Box Score
Gustavus Adolphus gained a 3-0 sweep over Macalester in St. Peter.  The first two sets were very close as the Scots played well, but the Gusties came through to win by set scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-18.

The Scots drop to 0-2 in MIAC matches and are 6-11 on the season.  The Gusties move up to 1-2 in the MIAC and 7-8 overall.

“It was great to see our team start the match with such intensity and focus.  It shows how much we have matured this season,” observed Mac head coach Annie Doman.  “It was a solid team effort with everyone stepping up to play their roles.  During the third set, we committed too many unforced errors, which took us out of the match.

“I'm proud of the way the team played. We are focused on moving forward.”

Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasaium #1) hit .288 and led the Macalester attack with 12 kills.  Hannah Rehak (So., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) contributed five blocks and six kills.  The defense was led by Glasha Marcon (Sr., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) with 13 digs and Avena with 11.

Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) handed out 14 assists and Kasey McMaster (Fy., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) added 10.

Macalester steps back on the court Tuesday (Sept. 25) when it plays host to North Central University at 7 p.m.  The Scots return to MIAC play next Friday (Sept. 28) when it plays host to St. Thomas at 7 p.m.
