Augsburg took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to break a 0-0 tie in the 59th minute and then clinched the win with a score in the 81st minute to beat Macalester 2-0 in an MIAC match Wednesday night in Minneapolis in the MIAC-opener for the Scots.
The Auggies out-shot Macalester 8-4 in each half and for the game had a 5-2 margin in shots on goal. Mac's two tries on net, both by all-conference midfielder
Robin Forslund (Jr., Madison, Wis. / Memorial), were denied by the Augsburg keeper. Augsburg led 7-6 in corner kicks.
Augsburg is on top of the early-season MIAC standings at 2-0 and are 6-2-1 overall. Macalester drops to 0-6-1 on the season, 0-1 in the league.
The Scots look to break into the win column when they host Hamline Saturday (Sept. 22) at 7:30 p.m. This begins a string of five straight home matches for Macalester.
