Macalester hosted St. Benedict, the second-place team in the conference standings, attacked at a .436 mark to beat the Scots 25-20, 25-13 and 25-14 in St. Paul. The Blazers are second to St. Thomas at 5-1 in the MIAC (16-4 overall), while the Scots drop to 0-5 in the MIAC, 7-14 overall.
The first set of the match was Macalester best as the Scots were tied 16-16 and later were down by three points at 22-19 before the Blazers put things away. Mac had a 50% side-out figure on the set.
Glasha Marcon (Sr., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) and
Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) each contributed nine digs to lead the Macalester defense, while the attack was led by Avena with nine kills and
Hannah Rehak (So., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) with eight. Rehak hit at a .400 mark.
CSB received 14 kills and 10 digs from Lexi Alm, and 46 assists from Taya Kockelman.
Macalester is off until next Wednesday (Oct. 10) when it plays at Concordia-Moorhead.
