The Scots closed out the campaign with a loss Friday night at St. Catherine. The Wildcats swept their way to a 3-0 sweep by winning 25-14, 25-10 and 25-20.
Macalester was led by All-MIAC hitter
Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium), who came into the match ranked first in the conference in kills per set. Avena finished with six kills to go along with eight digs and a couple aces.
Anna Trier (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) added five kills.
Defensively, the Scots received four blocks by
Hannah Rehak (So., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep), 11 digs by
Glasha Marcon (Sr., Richmond, Calif. / Albany), and six digs from
Cora Trout (Fy., Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge). Setters
Kasey McMaster (Fy., Oak Ridge, Calif.) and
Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) distributed 10 and seven assists, respectively.
St. Kate's hit .303 and was led by Stephanie Meschke and Marie O'Neil with 10 kills each as the Wildcats snap a six-match slump.
Macalester's best set was the third when it fell 20-25, but the Scots could not overcome a 11-3 SCU rally to start off.
Macalester wraps up the campaign with a 7-10 record and 0-11 MIAC mark. St. Catherine has two non-conference matches left and is 14-17 overall, 4-7 in the MIAC.
