Four second half scores gives Macalester win at Wartburg

Box Score
Macalester reacted to a pair of shutout defeats in a big way, picking up goals from four players to defeat Wartburg 4-2 in Waverly, Ia.  Following a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Scots picked up second half goals from Robin Forslund (Jr., Madison, Wis. / Memorial), Eric Dodd (Sr., Fort Madison, Ia.), Will Mackaman (Jr., Des Moines, Ia. / Roosevelt) and Chris Kartheiser (Jr., Shorewood, Wis.).

Mac netted the go-ahead and insurance goals in the 88th minute to wrap up its exciting victory.  The Scots move to 4-11-1 on the season, while Wartburg drops to 7-7-2.

The Scots claimed victory despite a 14-1 deficit in corner kicks and 27-13 deficit in total shots as goalkeeper Jesse Yourish (Sr., Port Townsend, Wash.) collected eight saves to keep his team in the picture for its late-match heroics.

Forslund converted a penalty kick 1:38 into the second half to begin the scoring outburst .  After the Knights matched that in the 67th minute, Dodd converted a pass from Sam Finegold (Fy., Fox Point, Wis. / Kent School (Conn.)) for his first career goal to put the visitors back on top.  Wartburg then equalized the match for the second time with a score in the 71st minute.

Macalester kept up the pressure and grabbed the lead for the third time when Kartheiser assisted on Mackaman's tally at 87:25, and then Kartheiser made it 4-2 just 29 seconds later to clinch the win.

The Scots have two matches remaining on the season, both MIAC home affairs.  Macalester hosts St. Mary's on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at 7:30 p.m. and plays Gustavus on Senior Day Saturday (Oct. 27) at 1 p.m.
