Macalester vs. Carleton statistics
Playing a man down for three quarters of the game and down a second player for the final five minutes, Macalester came up short in a 3-1 defeat to Carleton in Northfield. Carleton stays unbeaten in league play at 3-0 (4-3-1 overall), while Macalester drops to 2-2 in the MIAC (4-5 overall) after being dealt a blow in its bid to repeat as conference champs.
The Knights struck first, netting the game's first goal at 21:21. When the Macalester goalkeeper was red-carded for fouling on a breakaway, Carleton converted the free kick at 28:23 to go up 2-0.
Carleton extended its margin to a comfortable 3-0 in the 61st minute. Macalester responded 37 seconds later with a
Taylor Rasmussen (Jr., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) at 61:18. The Scots, however, could get no closer.
Mac was out-shot 16-12, including 11-8 in shots on net.
Rasmussen's score was his team-leading sixth goal of the season. He now has 24 career goals at Macalester, moving him into a tie for ninth on the all-time list with Matt Jackson '92.
The Scots play a non-conference match Saturday (Oct. 1) at home against Cornell (Ia.) at 7:30 p.m.
