Macalester vs. Maranatha Baptist Bible statistics
Macalester came from behind with a 17-point fourth quarter to beat Maranatha Baptist Bible 34-20 in Watertown, Wisconsin. The Scots scored on fourth-quarter touchdown passes from
Clark Bledsoe (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla. / Episcopal) to
Mike Snavely (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) from 20 and 48 yards out and the defense kept MBBC off the scoreboard in the second half.
The Scots pick up their first win of the year and are now 1-2. The Crusaders are 2-1.
Macalester received a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown by
Mike Adams (Jr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) to give the Scots a 17-14 second quarter lead. Adams ties a 50-year-old Macalester school mark for longest kickoff return, established by Jim Reissner in 1961.
Riley Koval (Jr., Mount Horeb, Wis.) caught four passes for 93 yards with a 58-yard TD reception and Snavely added four receptions for 83 yards. Bledsoe was 12-for-26 for 225 yards and
T. Joe Loiselle (Sr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) carried the ball 23 times for 90 yards. The Scots accumulated 397 yards in total offense.
Auburn Jimenez (So., East Los Angeles, Calif. / St. John Bosco) booted field goals from 20 and 36 yards out.
Mac's defense held the Crusaders away on three of five red-zone possessions, and forced a 3:1 turnover margin. Although the Crusaders threw 60 passes, they averaged only 5.1 yards per attempt.
Jole Miller (Fy., Missouri Valley, Ia.) had one of two Macalester interceptions and led the defense with nine tackles, while
Nate Dwyer (So., New Hope, Minn. / West Lutheran) also had a pick.
Jesse Russell (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) was in on eight tackles.
Maranatha's Phil Littrell went 30-for-60 passing for 307 yards and two TDs, with Joel Kobosh catching 11 passes for 159 yards and a score. Ethan Lane made 14 tackles, including three for loss of yardage, to lead the defense.
Although the fourth quarter started with an interception and a punt for Macalester, a fumble in Maranatha territory set up Bledsoe's first TD strike to Snavely as the Scots went up 24-20. A three-and-out by the Macalester defense set up a 36-yard Jimenez field goal and a 27-20 lead with 5:29 to go.
Two plays after the Crusaders punted with 3:27 to go, Mac put the game way with Snavely's 48-yard touchdown reception.
The Scots return to their home field next Saturday (Sept. 24) when they host Lewis & Clark (Ore.) at 1 p.m.
