Macalester beats Carroll 3-1; Auggies up next

Macalester vs. Carroll statistics

Macalester received goals from three players to beat Carroll (Wis.) 3-1 Friday night at home. The Scots gain their second straight win, tally multiple goals for the first time this season, and even their record at 3-3.

Reid Usedom (Sr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynold) took a cross from Jeremy Carp (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal School) in the 20th minute of play and converted the assist for his first goal of the year and a 1-0 Mac lead. Just 12 seconds before the halftime horn, Usedom led Taylor Rasmussen (Jr., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) on a breakaway, with Rasmussen netting his fourth of the season for 2-0 Macalester advantage.

After Carroll, now 1-3-1, scored in the 67th minute to cut the lead in half, the Scots wrapped up the victory when Ryan Marshall (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) put in his first goal of the season off a corner kick.

Macalester out-shot the Pioneers 13-5, including 6-2 in tries on net.

Goalkeeper Jansen Smith (Sr., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) recorded his first collegiate win in his first start in net.

Two of the leading pre-season favorites for the MIAC crown hook up next Wednesday (Sept. 21) when the Scots host Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. Macalester will enter the match with a 1-0 league slate. The Scots are the defending MIAC champs and the Auggies are the defending MIAC playoff champs. This will be Mac's sixth home match in seven contests to start the season.
