Macalester vs. St. John's statistics
Macalester began its defense of its 2010 MIAC title by blanking visiting St. John's 1-0 on a cool Wednesday night at Macalester Stadium. The match was much more defensive-minded than last year's 4-3 Macalester overtime win over the Johnnies in Collegeville.
Ryan Marshall (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) crossed a pass in front of the Johnnie net and
Taylor Rasmussen (Jr., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) converted for the game's lone score, which came in the first minute of the second half. Rasmussen moves into the No. 10 position on the school's all-time scoring chart with 21. He passes Nathan Knox '04 (20 goals).
Matt Weyer (Sr., Cedarburg, Wis.) was not asked to make a save and records his second shutout of the season. Macalester out-shot SJU 15-5, getting six shots from Rasmussen and three by
Reid Usedom (Sr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds).
The Scots play a non-conference match with Carroll (Wis.) Friday (Sept. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
