Macalester falls in MIAC playoffs to St. Benedict 62-57

Macalester vs. St. Benedict statistics

No. 3-seeded and host St. Benedict jumped and quickly in the first half and held off a late Macalester comeback try to beat the No. 6 Scots 62-57 in a quarter-final MIAC playoff game Tuesday night in St. Joseph.

Macalester winds up its season with a 10-16 record, while the Blazers go to 20-6 and advance to an MIAC semi-final game Thursday at Concordia.

Jessica Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park) each scored 17 points to pace Macalester and Holly Schiedermayer (Jr., Waupaca, Wis.) added 10 to go along with eight rebounds. Mucic grabbed 13 boards to help Mac out-rebounds CSB 32-25 and had four of her team's 10 steals. Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) handed out five assists.

St. Ben's shot 49% on the game and went 6-for-9 on three pointers. Heather Gillund led the way with 17 points. Amy Stifter added 15 points and Morgan Dale scored 14.

The Blazers went out on top 23-10 by making eight of their first 12 shots and were on top 36-27 at the intermission as Gillund and Stifter had 13 points apiece. CSB held its lead through the second half and was up by 12 points at 56-44 with 5:38 to play.

Not giving up without a fight, Macalester came back and was within five points with 2:15 remaining following Mucic's second straight three-pointer, but could get no closer.
