Macalester vs. Carleton statistics
Carleton led nearly the entire game, including by nine points with 2:16 to play, and held off a late rally by the Scots to edge Macalester 66-65 in Northfield.
Macalester received 22 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots from last week's MIAC Player of the Week
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.), who collects her third straight double-double. Teammate
Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) had eight points, eight boards and three steals.
Jessica Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) was 9-for-11 from the free throw stripe and finished with 12 points and
Shannon Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added nine points.
With one regular-season game left on the slate, Macalester is tied with Hamline at 10-11 for sixth-place and the race for the league's final playoff berth. To make the post-season for the second year in a row, one of two scenarios must occur. One, the Scots must win at Bethel Saturday (Feb. 19) and also get a road win from Concordia over Hamline in another 1 p.m. game. The other possibility would be if Macalester, Hamline and St. Mary's all lost, and St. Olaf wins. In that case, Mac would win a three-way tiebreaker.
Down by eight points with just over a minute to play, Macalester staged a nearly-remarkable comeback. Mucic canned a three-pointer at the 1:05 mark and added another trey at :51 cut the lead to 64-62. After a pair of Carleton free throws, Mac's
Maggie Wood (Jr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) nailed a three with :08 to play to make it a one-point game, but the Scots were unable to foul before the clock ran out.
Carleton was led by Ally Weaver with 20 points and Akemi Arzouman with 18, to go along with seven boards. The Knights held the Scots to a 33% shooting figure.
The Scots had a 15-8 turnover advantage and a 10-point lead in points off turnovers.
