Box Score Bethel went on a 14-2 run midway through the second half to turn a one-point deficit into a 51-40 lead, and went on to defeat Macalester 60-52 at the Leonard Center. The Royals improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the MIAC.
Kyanna Jones (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) just missed a double-double for the Scots, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. She had four of her team's 14 offensive boards.
Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) led the way inside, providing a team-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists.
Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) had eight points, seven rebounds and a couple steals.
Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and
Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) each dished out four assists.
Bethel led 22-10 in points off turnovers and received a big game from Taylor Sheley, who finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sheley scored her 1,000th career point early in the game. Kelly Swenson chipped in with 12 points. The Royals have won four in a row.
The game was closely contested until Bethel's 14-2 second half rally.
