Macalester vs. St. Olaf statistics
Macalester's chances of repeating as conference champions took a hit when visiting St. Olaf toppled the Scots 2-1 in front of a large Senior Night crowd. With their four-match win streak over, the Scots drop to 8-6 on the year and 5-3 in the MIAC. The Oles go forward to 12-2-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the MIAC, with their fourth straight win.
The match was closely contested and physical and both teams had some good scoring chances. The Oles move close to the league lead, along with Carleton (6-0-1) and Gustavus (6-1-1).
Anthony Calderon (So., St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) converted a nice pass over the top from
Reid Usedom (Sr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds), tapping a short shot into the far corner, to put the home side up 1-0. This was Calderon's fourth goal of the season.
St. Olaf's David Rosenthal converted a breakaway in the 60th minute to deadlock the match. Mac was red-carded for stopping a breakaway with a hand ball in the 83rd minute, and Rosenthal converted the penalty kick to give the Oles the come-from-behind victory.
The Oles out-shot Macalester 12-10, including 5-2 in shots on net.
The Scots play non-conference matches Monday (Oct. 17) at Elmhurst (Ill.) and Thursday (Oct. 20) at St. Norbert (Wis.) before returning to conference play Oct. 25 at St. Mary's.
