Scots strike for three second half goals to beat St. Thomas

Macalester vs. St. Thomas statistics

The Scots tallied three goals within a 13:30 stretch in the second half and went on to gain a big 3-1 comeback victory over St. Thomas at Macalester Stadium.  Mac posts its fourth win in a row to improve to 8-5 on the season, and more importantly, 5-2 in the MIAC.  UST falls to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Macalester's three-match shutout streak ended when UST's MacAlister Enderson scored 5:56 into the contest and the Tommies went on to lead 1-0 at halftime.

The Scots picked up the attack in the decisive second half.  Reid Usedom (Sr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) tied the match at 51:09 with his second goal of the year.

Macalester remained aggressive and decided the match with a pair of goals within a quick 29-second explosion.  Jesse Geary (Sr., Duluth, Minn. / Marshall) scored off a set piece from 20-yards out at 64:10 to put the home side up 2-1 with his second score of the campaign.  Then at 64:39, team scoring leader Taylor Rasmussen (Jr., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) headed in his 11th goal of the year on a Robin Forslund (So., Madison, Wis. / Memorial) cross.  Rasmussen has scored in six of his team's seven MIAC matches.

The Scots played to a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal and 14-10 lead in total shots.  Mac led 5-2 in corner kicks.

The game was delayed 45 minutes because of issues with the stadium lighting system.

This was Macalester's third straight win over the Tommies.
