Macalester vs. Luther statistics
Luther beat Macalester 3-1 Sunday in Decorah, Iowa, handing the No. 6-ranked Scots their first setback of the season and snapping an 11-game regular-season unbeaten streak. Macalester is now 6-1-1 on the campaign, while the Norse improve to 3-2-1. The match was played one day after the Scots earned a double-overtime victory at Wartburg.
The Norse were awarded a penalty kick in the first minute of the match, and converted to take a quick lead.
Ryan Marshall (Jr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) took advantage of a
Stephen Murphy-Logue (Sr., Anchorage, Ak. / West) to net his first goal of the season in the 12th minute and tie the score at 1-1.
Luther took advantage of a couple second half Macalester fouls to claim victory. The Norse converted a PK in the 62nd minute and in the 74th minute scored off an indirect free kick from five yards out. Macalester set up a 10-player wall in front of the goal and deflected LC's free kick, but the Norse blasted in the rebound for a 3-1 advantage.
Macalester looks to get back to its winning ways Wednesday (Sept. 22) when they host Cornell (Ia.) at 7:30 p.m.
