Season starts with overtime win at St. Scholastica

Macalester vs. St. Scholastica statistics

Macalester, the pre-season pick to win the MIAC, and St. Scholastica, the pre-season choice in the UMAC, met in Duluth to open their season-openers, and it was the Macalester Scots claiming the victory in this tight battle. Reid Usedom (Jr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) scored the game's only goal early in overtime and goalkeeper Matt Weyer (Jr., Cedarburg,  Wis.) turned away four shots on goal to post the shutout.

Each team got off three shots on goal in each half, but the Scots had both attempts on net in overtime, including Usedom's game-winner at 91:16 on an assist from Chris Kartheiser (Fy., Shorewood, Wis.).

The Scots snap a two-game skid against CSS and avenge an overtime defeat to the Saints last season in St. Paul.

The Scots host Northwestern-Roseville on Friday (Sept. 3) at 3 p.m. and on Sunday (Sept. 5) play host to Division III power Loras (Ia.) at 3 p.m. Loras knocked Macalester out in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs last season.  These matches, as well as all Mac home events this season again, will be webcast live.
