St. Thomas held host Macalester to 25% shooting (14-for-57) to topple the Scots 60-52 in an MIAC quarter-final round game Monday night at the Leonard Center and put an end to Macalester's season. No. 5 seeded St. Thomas improves to 19-7 and heads to St. Peter for an MIAC semi-final contest Wednesday against No. 2 Gustavus. Mac closes out its excellent season at 16-10 after posting an all-time best 16-6 conference record and earning the No. 4 seed.

St. Thomas trailed 7-0 before scoring its first points at 14:33 of the first half. Down by a point at 11-10 with 11:00 to play in the half, the Tommies staged a 14-2 run against the cold shooting Scots to go on top 24-13 with 4:21 left in the half. At this point, the Scots were shooting just 16% from the field against the MIAC's top-ranked defensive team.

A 28-21 UST halftime lead grew to 15 points at 42-27 eight minutes into the second period, but Macalester fought back to make a good game of it, cutting the margin to six at 46-40 with 6:22 to play and again at 56-50 with :50 left, but could get no closer.

Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) scored 18 points to lead the way for Macalester, while Jessica Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) added 11 points each.

St. Thomas received 20 points and 15 rebounds from Rachel Booth, who also blocked five shots. The Tommies survived a 3-for-17 three-point shooting performance, largely by out-scoring Macalester 30-16 in points in the paint.
