Macalester vs. St. Benedict statistics
St. Benedict controlled play most of the way and led by 18 at the halftime break, but had to hold off a furious 20-2 second half comeback rally by the Scots as Macalester came to within five points with 3:32 left. The Blazers, however, re-grouped and pulled away for a 67-53 win over the Scots in St. Joseph.
The Blazers stay a game back in the title race and improve to 15-4 on the season, 13-3 in the MIAC. The Scots fall to 11-8 overall and 11-5 in the MIAC going into Wednesday's home game with first-place Gustavus.
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Macalester. She has led the team in scoring in eight of the past nine games.
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) played a strong all-around game, finishing with a career-best 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) tallied 14 points and
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) added 13 to go along with three assists and three steals. PaStarr also had seven rebounds and a couple blocked shots.
Macalester went just 7-for-23 from the floor in the first half and found itself behind at the break 37-19. CSB was 5-for-11 on first half three-pointers. St. Ben's boosted its advantage to 52-29 with 11:48 to play before the Scots staged their 20-2 run to make things interesting. The Blazers, however, closed the door with a decisive 13-2 rally.
St. Ben's was led by Heather Gillund, who went 11-for-14 from the floor and finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Devin Bowlin and Amy Stifter each provided five assists. CSB had an 8-1 advantage in three-pointers.
