Macalester 11th appearance in the NCAA Division III championship playoffs, and second in a row, ended in the first round as Wisconsin-Whitewater won a 2-0 decision over the MIAC champs in Whitewater. The Warhawks (13-2-3) advance to the second round against either Augsburg or St. Scholastica, while the Scots close out a very good season at 14-5-1.
UW-Whitewater scored single goals in each have, getting a score from Trevor Swentik in the 30th minute and converting a penalty kick by Dan Montayne in the 67th minute.
The Warhawks out-shot the Scots 15-6, including 6-2 in tries on net. Macalester's
Reid Usedom (Jr., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) and
Robin Forslund (Fy., Madison, Wis. / Memorial) each had two shots and one shot on goal to lead the attack. Goalkeeper
Mark Mullaney (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) turned away four shots on net.
