Macalester vs. Minnesota-Morris statistics

Jake McDonnell (Sr., Duluth, Minn. / Marshall) ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns and T. Joe Loiselle (Jr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) added 125 yards and a score to lead Macalester past Minnesota-Morris 48-27 Friday afternoon at the Metrodome. The Scots are 5-3 and have clinched their first winning record since 1986 and have set a new scoring record.

Unlike last year's 3-0 Minnesota-Morris squeaker over the Scots at the Metrodome, this year's dome contest was controlled by the offenses as the Scots and Cougars combined for 950 yards and an average of 7.1 yards per play. Macalester has put up at least 40 points in three of its past five games and with just eight games played has established a Macalester all-time record for points in a season with 270 (33.8 per game).  The old mark was 263 set by the 1969 Scots.

The Scots fought back from a 20-10 second quarter deficit, figuring out a way to stop the Cougar offense, and controlled play the rest of the way.  Macalester did not punt at all in the game.

In addition to getting 145 yards on 13 carries from McDonnell and 125 yards on 23 attempts from Loiselle, Jake Johnson (Fy., McKenzie, Tenn.) added 62 yards on the ground on 12 carries. The Scots were an efficient 9-for-13 passing, with Jon Elliott (Sr., El Paso, Tex. / Andress) pulling in seven receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Auburn Jimenez (Fy., East Los Angeles, Calif. / St. John Bosco) booted 44- and 43-yard field goals and is now 4-for-5 from 40 yards and out. The two-sport standout will race as one of Mac's top runners tomorrow at the MIAC cross country championships.

Zach Englert (So., Salt Lake City, Utah / Skyline) led the defense with 12 tackles, while Aaron Gallegos (So., Lakeville, Minn. / North) and Reid Callahan (Fy., Atlanta, Ga. / St. Pius X) were each In on 10 stops.

The Scots travel outside of the Twin Cities for the first time since the season-opener at Grinnell (Ia.) when they play Saturday (Nov. 6) at Martin Luther College in New Ulm.
