Scots sweep Carleton on Senior Night; Coulter collects 1000th dig

Macalester vs. Carleton statistics

Macalester won for the third time in four matches, sweeping Carleton 25-18, 25-16 and 27-15 on Senior Night at the Leonard Center. The Scots improve to 13-15 on the season and 3-7 in the MIAC.

One Mac senior, Kiera Coulter (Davis, Calif.), collected eight digs to boost her career dig total to 1,000. The other Macalester senior, Majra Mucic (Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.), spiked 23 kills and hit .600 to lead the attack.

The Scots scored the first point of the opening set and never trailed. Leading 17-15, Macalster staged a 5-0 rally to go up 22-15 and then went on to win by seven. Carleton came back from a 7-3 deficit to tie the second set 8-8 and then again at 11-11. After that point, however, Macalester out-scored the Knights 14-5 to gain the nine-point victory.

The third set was played evenly and featured eight times and five lead changes. Carleton led 20-17, 23-21 and 25-24 before the Scots registered the final three points, the game-winner being set up by Coulter's 1,000th dig and a Mucic kill.

In addition to getting 23 kills from Mucic, the Scots received 13 digs, five serving aces and six digs from Laura Avena (Fy., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1). Setter Danielle Dweck (Jr., Sea Cliff, N.Y. / North Shore) dished out 37 assists to go along with five digs and a couple aces. Mac served 10 digs on the match.

Carleton,now 10-13 overall and 2-8 in the MIAC, was led by Kelly Lovett with nine kills and Erin Anderson with 13 digs.

Macalester wraps up its season Saturday (Oct. 30) at St. Catherine at 3 p.m.
