Macalester vs. Concordia statistics
Macalester took the lead for good midway through the first half and rolled to a 75-57 triumph in Moorhead over Concordia and at 6-1 in the MIAC are off to the best conference start in the program's history.
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) made all eight of her shots and finished with 18 points for the Scots, who shot 55% from the floor and 50% on three-point tries.
With their third straight double-digit win against top MIAC teams, the Scots improve to 6-4 overall and 6-1 in the league. Earlier this month, Macalester beat St. Thomas by 19 points and Gustavus by 12. The Scots are tied with Gustavus for second, one game behind 7-0 St. Benedict. Concordia drops to 6-4 overall, 5-2 in the league.
Mac never trailed and the game was tied three times, the last at 13-13 before the Scots staged a 14-1 run to take control. The lead was ten at 34-24 at the intermission. The Scots extended the lead to 15 at 43-28 before Concordia tallied eight straight points to get within seven with 9:08 to go.
That's when Mac put the finishing touches on things with a big 13-2 rally to make the margin 18 with just over five minutes left.
In addition to getting 18 points from Baltzer, who increases her career scoring total to 981, the Scots received 12 points and seven rebounds from
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest), and 11 points each from
Shannon Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and
Jessica Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial).
The Rene twins each went 3-for-4 from three-point territory.
Jessica Rene tied PaStarr for the team lead with seven boards.
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) dished out four assists, while PaStarr,
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) and
Maggie Wood (So., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) each handed out three.
Concordia was paced by Erica Nord with 25 points.
Once again, Mac's defense was strong, holding the Cobs to a 35% shooting figure.
