Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics
The Scots shot 61% in the opening period to take a 48-20 halftime lead, and rolled to a 91-63 triumph over St. Mary's at the Leonard Center. Macalester's posted its highest scoring total in 14 years and had five players in double figures, led by
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) with 23 points. PaStarr, a two-time All-MIAC forward, went 10-for-15 from the field.
Three Scots handed out at least five assists.
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) led the way with seven assists, while
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) and
Jessica Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added five apiece.
Mac improves to 10-5 on the season and 10-2 in the MIAC. The Scots remain in a tie for second with Concordia, one game behind league-leader Gustavus. St. Mary's falls to 4-11 overall, 3-9 in the MIAC.
Macalester led 16-12 before knocking down nearly every shot in sight during a very impressive 31-3 rally over just an eight-minute stretch which boosted the margin to 32 points at 47-15 with 3:09 left in the first half. At this stage Mac was shooting at a 71% rate. The Scots were 7-for-11 on first half three's.
In addition to getting 23 points from PaStarr, the team received 16 points from
Jessica Rene, 14 from
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.), 12 from Johnson and 11 off the bench from
Shannon Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial).
St. Mary's was led by Jess Miller with 18 points.
The Scots had a 20-7 turnover advantage and registered 23 assists.
The Scots, who scored 83 points a couple nights ago at St. Catherine, try to keep their roll going when they host Hamline Saturday (Jan. 23) at 1 p.m.
