Macalester vs. St. Olaf statistics
After having their four-game winning streak stopped three nights ago by Carleton, the Scots bounced back in a big way, charging to a 42-16 halftime lead and going on to beat St. Olaf 67-44 Saturday at the Leonard Center.
Jessica Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) knocked down 4-of-6 from behind the three-point stripe and paced the Scots with 15 points.
The Scots move to 8-2 in the MIAC and are in a three-way tie for second place,a game behind Gustavus (9-1). St. Benedict and Concordia are also 8-2. Mac is 8-5 overall, while St. Olaf falls to 1-12 overall and 1-9 in the MIAC.
The game was decided in the first half as Macalester went 15-for-28 from the floor (54%) compared to 5-for-27 (19%) for St. Olaf. Mac was 6-for-9 on threes in the period.
Joining Rene in double figures was
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) with 14 points, while
Holly Schiedermayer (So., Waupaca, Wis.) led the team with seven rebounds off the bench. Baltzer has averaged 17.8 points over the team's past four games.
Alyssa Lunde (Sr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) and
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) added nine points apiece to the Macalester cause and
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) scored eight.
St. Olaf was led by Katie Lauer with 16 points. Kathryn Thompson led all rebounders with 10 boards, five off the offensive glass.
The Scots wrap up the first half of the demanding 22-game double round-robin MIAC schedule on Monday (Jan. 18) at St. Catherine.
