Macalester vs. Carleton statistics
Carleton took the lead for good with 12 minutes left, and pulled away for a 60-48 victory over Macalester at the Leonard Center, snapping Mac's four-game win streak. Carleton held the Scots to a 32% shooting figure and improves to 3-9 overall, 3-6 in MIAC play. The Scots are now 7-5 on the season and 7-2 in the conference.
Macalester knocked down only three of 20 three-point shots and was 7-for-15 on three throws. The Knights went 14-for-18 from the free throw stripe and became the first conference team to out-rebound the Scots this season. Mac came into the contest ranked No. 13 in the nation in rebounding margin.
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) kept Macalester in the contest and finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. No one else, however, reached double figures.
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) blocked three shots, while joining Baltzer with three assists were
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) and
Shannon Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial).
Leading Carleton with 14 points each were Ally Weaver and Megan Erlandson, while Akemi Arzouman contributed 12 points and eight boards. Megan Mileusnic finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
The Knights led 18-7 after seven minutes of play and were on top 27-25 at the intermission. Both teams were cold to start the second period and just seven total points were scored over the first six minutes of the half. Erlandson scored at 13:43 to put Carleton up for good at 31-30.
Macalester returns to action Saturday (Jan. 16) when it plays host to St. Olaf at 1 p.m.
