Macalester vs. St. Scholastica statistics
St. Scholastica scored with just 1:02 left in regulation and went on to hand Macalester a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime setback Friday in St. Paul.
St. Scholastica, the two-time defending champs of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, dominated the Scots a year ago in a 3-0 victory in Duluth, but this time the Scots defense tightened up and held the Saints off the scoreboard for 89 minutes despite a 17-7 CSS advantage in shots.
Taylor Rasmussen (Fy., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) netted his first career goal at 37:02 to give the host-Scots a 1-0 lead, an advantage Mac held until the final minute.
CSS evened the score late on a Dustin James goal and in the seventh minute of the extra session, Jermaine Dacres registered the overtime winner. The Saints had seven shots on goal, compared to three for Macalester.
The Scots (0-1-1 on the year) face one of their most difficult challenges of the season Sunday (Sept. 6) when they host Wartburg at 1 p.m. The Knights have made the NCAA Division III plays the last five years. They started their season earlier this week with a 3-0 win over Carleton and play another MIAC power tomorrow when they take on Augsburg.
